Atlanta Radio Theatre Company

Fresh off 2009's triumphant performances of "The Call of Cthulhu" and "Rory Rammer, Space Marshal: Enemies Within!", ARTC brings you two more shows of our special brand of immersive audio drama guaranteed to thrill the imagination and startle the senses! Still in development, these astounding stories are being prepared to challenge the notion that special effects are all that science fiction and fantasy can offer. Rediscover the vision and promise of the imagined future with the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company!

ARTC will present two shows this year. Friday night at 7pm in the Hyatt Regency 6-7 and Sunday at 7pm, also in the Hyatt Regency 6-7.

Friday night show:
The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company gets your Dragon*Con off to the right start with an evening designed to rev the imagination into high gear through the Magic of Radio.  Our feature presentation will be “The House Across the Way” by Kelley S. Ceccato.  Three sisters are pursuing George Dasher, the music teacher who lives in the house across the way. A pity that one of them is dead.   Special guest musician Paul Mercer.
Also included in this presentation: "The Proper Thing to Do" by Brad Linaweaver and William Alan Ritch.  Adapted for audio by William Alan Ritch.
It was not your typical alien invasion.  No death rays.  No destruction of cities.  The aliens were killing us with kindness!  How do you handle unexpected and unwanted Guests?  What is the proper thing to do?

Sunday night show:
Master horror writer H. P. Lovecraft was born 120 years ago and today his cult of Cthulhu enthusiasts has spread across the globe, much as he predicted the Great Old Ones themselves would do when the stars were right.  Join ARTC as we celebrate the birth of one of our favorite and most popular writers with our bestselling adaptation of "At the Mountains of Madness," adapted for audio by Brad Strickland.  In this classic horror story, an old man consents to a radio interview. In that interview a number of terrible truths come out. The truth about an expedition to Antarctica in the 1920's where everyone died horribly. The truth about an attempt to find the expedition's mysterious killers. The truth about a desolate plateau in the heart of a frozen continent. The truth about life and intelligence on the planet Earth. And the truth about the prehistoric horror that still waits lurking — At the Mountains of Madness.

With special guest musicians The Ghosts Project.
Also included in this presentation, "Time and Time Again" by H. Beam Piper, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler.  Major Allan Hartley lies in the snow, dying of burns and radiation poisoning.  A victim of the nuclear bomb that destroyed Buffalo, New York in the early days of the Third World War.  He drifts into darkness.  When he awakens he is in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, 1945.  In his childhood home.  In his bedroom.  In his thirteen-year-old body.  He must struggle to retain his sanity as he learns that you can live your life — Time and Time Again.

Autograph Sessions

Director: Tom Gennaro

Each year, Dragon*Con assembles many of its willing guests for scheduled autographs (signings) in one area. Not every guest is willing - or able - to sign items, but we do inquire as to each guest’s willingness to do so.

Some guests-usually screen stars-charge for autographs, but autographs staged in our Autograph Area are always free. Limitations on number and type of items may be made, generally at the request of the signer, and sometimes due to time considerations.

Autographs will be handled on a first-come, first-signed basis. We will promote equal access for handicapped persons but this does not exclude them from the first-come, first-served rule; as with other convention attendees they will get their autograph in order of their arrival.

Band/Fan Tables, & Concourses

Director: Paul W. Cashman

Changes for 2010: This year, our fan tables and freebie tables will again be located in two different hotels, the Hyatt Regency (outside the Grand Hall) and the Sheraton. Tables for Performers and Bands will be located in the Marriott Marquis's Convention Level.

Note that Convention Registration will be located in the Sheraton again in 2010. That hotel will also be hosting several popular programming tracks including our British SF and TrekTrak programming, plus a 1,000-capacity ballroom for large programming events, including nighttime events.
The Hyatt's Grand Hall will again host our Art Show, and will also host our Comics Artists Alley.

The acoustic/ambient music stage remains in its traditional location, outside the Hyatt's Centennial Ballroom and one floor below the lobby.

Fan Tables are available for fan groups, conventions, clubs, etc. to showcase themselves. These tables are free, but they are limited in number and must be reserved in advance. Please see here for the rules regarding tables and staffing.

Our onsite coordinators for fan tables will once again be Rebecca and Johan Tabor, who will be handling at-con table assignments. However, all requests for tables should still be emailed directly to Paul W. Cashman. Paul will again be handling the onsite coordination of the band and performers' tables in the Marriott.

Bellydancing

So you think you can Belly Dance??? Or maybe you can’t… YET! For all of you aspiring dancers we are excited to offer you the chance to learn from a master Belly Dancer, Phoenicia. She is fabulous, has over 20 years of dancing experience and has taught similar classes at other conventions with much success. Phoenicia will be teaching a sort of “Belly Dancing 101” during the 2010 convention. Classes should last about an hour and while you might not leave the room as an expert belly dancer, you will most definitely leave a more polished stage performer with a few dance moves under your belt.

Browncoats: Redemption

The Whedon Universe Track and Dragon*Con are proud to host the world premier screening of the highly anticipated feature film Browncoats: Redemption.  A fan film for charity.

When: Saturday September 4th at 7 PM
Where: Westin Peachtree Ballroom

What is the film about?

BROWNCOATS: REDEMPTION takes place three months after the events on Miranda and we find Captain Laura Matthews and the crew of Redemption unintentionally thrown into a situation that some view as the potential catalyst for the second unified rise of the Independents against the Alliance, since Unification Day. The Alliance is looking for a scape goat for Miranda while those unhappy with the Alliance are looking for a rallying cry to take action. Through all this, a secret about Laura is exposed that shakes the very core of the crew, threatening to break it up, challenge the trust that she’s earned with the Browncoats, and undo all the efforts she has put into place to keep a sense of peace in her life since the first Unification War.

All proceeds from the film will benefit these five charities:

Equality Now
Kids Need to Read
Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation
The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center
The Dyslexia Foundation

Be sure to visit the cast and crew of the film at the Southeastern Browncoats booth in the Dragon*Con Dealer's Room

Robot Battles™

Robot Battles™ is the second-oldest robotic combat competition in the world, and is a direct descendant of the oldest - the Critter Crunch held every year at MileHiCon in Denver, Colorado. We don't have a TV show, we don't have supermodels, and we don't have huge cash prizes. What we do have is a radio disc jockey with very poor taste in costumes, the most involved audiences in the country, the most imaginative builders around, and the most unique stage hazards in the sport, ranging from rubber snakes to stuffed animals to soft spongy rubber ducks.

For the 20th year in a row, we will be returning to Atlanta for the Dragon*Con convention and our largest competition of the year. Held for two days over the Labor Day Weekend of 2010, this is the one robotic event of the year you do NOT want to miss!"

Scientific Paranormal Investigation Workshop

The Paranormal Investigation Workshop is Sold Out!

Ever wondered how a person goes about investigating a haunted house, a Bigfoot sighting, or a crop circle? In movies and on television it looks easy, but how do real-life paranormal investigators discover what really happened, separating truth from myth?

Come find out in a unique, 2.5-hour intensive workshop taught by Benjamin Radford. Radford is a Research Fellow with the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer magazine, columnist for LiveScience.com and Discovery News, and author of five books and hundreds of articles on skepticism, investigation, and the paranormal.

Radford is one of only a few paranormal investigators in the world who approach the topics from a truly scientific perspective. The goal is to understand and explain the mysteries using science and evidence, not to prove or disprove the existence of these phenomena. He will share his experience and insights gained over a decade of first-hand field investigations, drawing from dozens of case studies involving lake monsters, psychics, and ghosts, Radford will explain the step-by-step process in investigations, including critical thinking, evaluating unusual claims, interviewing eyewitnesses, and conducting field experiments.

Cost is $20 and includes a workbook and discount on Radford's new book, Scientific Paranormal Investigation.  Class size is limited to 30 people, and pre-registration is required.

Please contact the office during regular business hours Monday - Friday 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Time for payment with a Visa or MasterCard, or you mail in your payment to the office.
